Watch: Massive avalanche hits several districts in J&K

NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir’s

area along the Srinagar-Leh Highway was hit by a

avalanche on Thursday. No casualties have been reported

so far.
The avalanche struck near a workshop for the construction of the Zojila tunnel in Sonamarg.

Earlier this week, another avalanche struck the skiing slopes of the Gulmarg resort in Baramulla district.

The incident trapped two skiers beneath the debris as they were descending the slope in the late afternoon.

Local skiers and ski patrol personnel managed to rescue the two individuals caught in the avalanche, averting fatalities.
The adverse weather conditions also triggered a landslide on the 270-kilometer Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Kishtwari Patheri near the Sher Bibi area.
Issuing a warning, the J&K Disaster Management Authority cautioned residents about the heightened avalanche risk, advising them to exercise caution and refrain from entering avalanche-prone zones.
Various regions in Jammu and Kashmir continued to experience fresh snowfall, causing the temperature to drop to 9 degrees Celsius on Monday.
The Kashmir Valley is currently covered in several feet of snow, impacting both flights and traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
