NEW DELHI: The focus was on Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir ahead of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Kolkata Knight Riders match and it continues to be on both the players.
Both Kohli and Gambhir had heated exchanges on the field in the past but the duo seemed to have buried the hatchet as they shook hands during the IPL 2024 match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday.
A video went viral on social media showing the duo embracing each other and sharing smiles during the strategic timeout.
Earlier in the day, KKR added fuel to the fire with their post on their social media handle X, captioning “Cricket images that hit hard.”
KKR shared two images, the first featuring Gambhir prominently in the foreground with a blurred figure lingering in the background. As the image sharpens, it reveals Kohli staring intently in Gambhir’s direction.
They both had a verbal altercation during IPL 2023 when Gambhir, now Kolkata Knight Riders’s mentor, was associated with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
The confrontation began with a fiery exchange between Virat and LSG pacer Naveen Ul Haq. At the conclusion of the match, Gambhir stepped onto the field and engaged in another round of verbal sparring with Kohli.
One of the most notable incidents between the two occurred during an IPL match in 2013, where Kohli and Gambhir were involved in a heated exchange on the field. The incident grabbed headlines and fueled speculation about their relationship.
