The former US President Donald Trump, who narrowly survived a shot at his life during a
Pennsylvania rally
, revealed on Monday that the
former first lady
Melania Trump was watching it live and was left traumatized so much so that she still struggles to talk about the day he dropped to the ground. And at that moment,
Donald Trump
said Melania had “thought the worst had happened.”
In an interview to Fox news explaining Melania’s immediate reaction, the 45th president said, “When I went down, she thought the worst had happened,” and added “because I went down and grabbed my hand and my hand was loaded up with blood.”
“She can’t really even talk about it, which is okay, because that means she likes me, or she loves me,” Trump told the Fox news anchor.
The former first lady echoed similar sentiments in her statement post the assassination attempt. “When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change,” Melania said immediately after the July 13
shooting
.
“Yeah, I’m going to do rallies”
Despite being so close to being shot dead and the secret service urging him to hold lesser outside rallies, Donald Trump defiantly said that the shooting will not force him to stop holding outside rallies Donald Trump.
Trump continued to support the
Secret Service agents
, who have come under intense scrutiny since July 13 and lost their chief subsequnetly. Trump however said the protective unit should’ve coordinated better with local police to stop Crooks while also praising Secret Service detail for leaping on top of him once bullets began flying.
“They were very brave. I went down and they were — they were on top of me, I had a lot of very big, strong people on top of me.”
“Should’ve been somebody on the roof, should’ve been communication with the local police and we’re seeing this guy, who was a very disturbed person,” he added.
The former president has confirmed that he will give a “victim statement” to the FBI. During the rest of the interview, he reiterated familiar campaign themes, claiming that Joe Biden’s departure from the Democratic 2024 ticket was due to a “coup” and criticising Kamala Harris as a “weaker and more radical candidate than Biden”.
Trump however also mentioned that he would “probably” end up debating Harris, despite his campaign hinting at backing out of the debates.
