Tamil Nadu: DIG C Vijayakumar shoots himself dead in Coimbatore

C Vijayakumar
shot himself dead with a pistol at his camp office in Race Course here on Friday morning.
According to sources, Vijayakumar went for a walk in the morning and came to his camp office around 6.45am. He asked his personal security officer (PSO) to hand over his pistol, and he came out of the office with it. He shot himself dead around 6.50am.
Other cops, who were on duty at the camp office, informed senior police officers who reached the spot.
Sources said that Vijayakumar told his fellow officers that he had not been able to sleep properly for a few weeks and was under severe depression. But the reason for the suicide was yet to be known, police said.
The body was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for postmortem. Further inquiries were on.
Vijayakumar took charge as the
DIG
of police, Coimbatore range, on January 6, 2023. He replaced MS Muthusamy who was transferred and posted as DIG, Vellore range.
Vijayakumar was a 2009 batch
IPS
officer. Earlier, he served as superintendent of police in Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts. Later, he served as the deputy commissioner of police in Chennai’s Anna Nagar. He was promoted as the DIG and posted in Coimbatore range.
