Swara Bhaskar and Fahad Ahmad open up on bridging religious and social differences

Swara Bhaskar and

Fahad Ahmad

‘s love story is an example of how love can overcome even the greatest differences. The couple tied the knot in February last year and are now proud parents to a beautiful baby girl, Raabiyaa.
In a recent appearance on Amrita Rao and Anmol’s podcast, Swara and Fahad shared insights into their journey of love.
Opening up on the difference between Swara and him, Fahad reflected on their backgrounds, noting how they came from distinct worlds.

While Swara’s mother was a professor at JNU and her father a respected Naval officer who contributed columns to English newspapers, Fahad came from a family where no one had completed education beyond the 10th standard. He was the first in his family to have the opportunity to study, eventually earning a PhD degree.

Ahmad highlighted the urban-rural divide between him and Swara, explaining that he comes from a small area in Bareilly that isn’t even a district, while Swara hails from a more urban background. He also mentioned their religious differences—he is a Pasmanda Muslim from the OBC community, and she is a Brahmin. Despite these contrasts, Ahmad shared that their commonality lies in their sexual orientation, as they are both straight. He added that their relationship has crossed numerous barriers, including caste, religion, geography, and class, acknowledging that while it is challenging, it has also been incredibly fulfilling and fun.

Swara also added to the conversation and pointed out another difference between them, mentioning that she is older than Fahad. Fahad, in a playful tone, remarked that Swara never misses an opportunity to share this fact, though he doesn’t mind, as there’s nothing to hide.
Swara and Fahad recalled their first meeting in December 2019, which stood out because they quickly realized they had no common interests or points of connection. Despite their contrasting social backgrounds and caste differences, their relationship flourished, leading them to eventually marry.
