: The Diamond Bazaar.’ However, did you know Sharmin cried during the shoot of her debut film ‘

Malaal

‘?
Yes, you read that right! During the promotions of ‘Malaal,’ Sharmin told Radio City India that her uncle, Bhansali, who produced the film, rarely visited the set but made an exception one day.

On that occasion, she was filming a song sequence and felt very nervous with her uncle and mentor overseeing the shot.

Sharmin shared that on the day Sanjay Leela Bhansali visited the set, she struggled significantly with a particular shot. Normally requiring around 15 takes, she ended up needing 25 takes that day, which left her feeling frustrated and drained. After finally completing the shot, she retreated to her vanity van, where Bhansali approached her, expressing his enjoyment of the process and indicating his intention to stay for another shot.

Sharmin described how she returned to the set and, despite her efforts, couldn’t get the shot right even after 30 takes, leading to intense frustration. Bhansali didn’t yell or criticize her but simply insisted she had to do it. Overwhelmed, Sharmin broke down in tears after the 30th take.

Four years after ‘Malaal,’ Bhansali directed Sharmin in ‘Heeramandi.’ Reflecting on their collaboration, he shared with us that Sharmin repeatedly assured him she would underplay her role. Bhansali responded, surprised, by asking if she thought he would ask her to overact.
