KOLKATA:
Calcutta high court
on Thursday slammed the Bengal government while hearing the
Sandeshkhali
violence case.
Calling the case ‘extremely shameful, if true’ the court pulled up the ruling Trinamool Congress (
TMC
)-led government, saying safety of citizens falls entirely within their ‘responsibility.’
Sandeshkhali, located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, has become a focal point of political controversy for almost two months now.
The village was engulfed in widespread protests following accusations of sexual abuse leveled by numerous women against a local TMC leader,
Sheikh Shahjahan
, who was identified as the primary conspirator.
