returned to the Director’s Chair after a gap of 7 years, with
Raayan
which released this Friday, and the film has taken a healthy start, not only in India, but also in North America. The film in India minted Rs 12 crore for its opening day, while in
North America
, it earned more than Rs 50 lakh just for its premiere shows.
Dhanush has not only directed, and also written Raayan, it also marks the 50th film of his career.
It is a thriller which follows the journey of Raayan, who is out to seek revenge from gangs that destroyed his family. The film also stars

The film in North America had a very limited showcasing for its premiere shows, and they were split between Tamil and Telugu versions. It earned US $ 62,653 from Tamil, and US $ 1,788 from Telugu, totalling US $ 64,351 ( Rs 53.8 lakh) . And going by the positive word of mouth, the film is expected to grow over the weekend.
Dhanush is expected to team up with
Aanand L Rai
for a film, called Tere Ishk Mein, and it was rumored that
Triptii Dimri
would be cast opposite him in the film, but the buzz turned out to be untrue.
