Rishi Sunak
on Wednesday said that he is proud of his Indian roots he will always have a connection to India and its people.
In an interview to news agency PTI,
Sunak
said he was overwhelmed by the response from Indians when he was appointed as the Prime Minister. “My wife is Indian and being a proud Hindu, I will always have a connection to India and people of India. Response from Indian people to my appointment as Prime Minister was overwhelming and humbling,” Sunak said.
Sunak, the first Indian-origin prime minister of Britain, said the relationship between the UK and India will define the future of the two countries, even more than it is defining the present.
Rishi Sunak will land in India later this week for the
G20
World Leaders’ Summit.
“2023 is a huge year for India. I pay tribute to PM Modi’s leadership over the last year and it’s wonderful to see India showing such global leadership. We will work closely with India through its G20 Presidency to address biggest challenges facing world,” he said.
