NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party supremo
Akhilesh Yadav
on Sunday said that the UP government should provide the best possible medical care for the survivor, as it is their responsibility to safeguard her life. Akhilesh also urged the court to order for the the safety of the Ayodhya rape survivor, given the case’s “sensitivity.”
“It is a humble request to the honourable court to take suo motu cognisance of the situation and ensure all possible security to the girl under its supervision, considering the sensitivity and seriousness of the situation.
The motive of ill-intentioned people to politicise such incidents should never succeed,” he said in a post on X.
‘Height of Muslim appeasement: BJP
In response to Yadav’s post, Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya claimed that Yadav’s concern stems from his desire to secure the Muslim vote bank, which is why he requested DNA tests for the two Muslim accused.
BJP IT cell chief Amti Malviya also attacked Akhilesh, accusing him of protecting the accused and exploiting the backward community.
“So much anxiety to save the rapists just because Moeed Khan is a Muslim and the victim is a minor girl from Nishad community? Talking about PDA only for votes? This is the height of Muslim appeasement. SP has always exploited the backward community. But this time injustice will not be allowed. Punishment will be given,” Malviya wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Moid Khan, a bakery owner and SP functionary, and his employee Raju Khan were arrested by Ayodhya Police on Thursday for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl who worked for them as a daily wage laborer. The abuse reportedly continued for over two months, resulting in the young victim becoming pregnant.
