The details of the ‘

Hema Committee Report

‘ were recently made public, and ever since then, movie stars have voiced out their opinion on the findings related to the

Malayalam Film Industry

, including

Nani

and

Tovino Thomas

. In a recent interview, Nani described the report as “alarming,” but he hasn’t witnessed any such incidents on his film sets.

“When I read this thing, it breaks my heart.

But I don’t see this happening on my sets or anywhere around me. I’m sure it’s the same case with a lot of mainstream films (as) everybody’s working towards something very serious,” He said to PTI.
The actor further added, “There might have been something, but it never came to my notice on the location or everybody’s a little careful around us. So, when I read something like this, I’m like, ‘Where is this happening?’ “

Currently promoting his upcoming movie ‘Surya’s Saturday,’ Nani called for strict punishment for those accused and expressed hope for positive changes in the industry. “I see a lot of change in the next generation. When I see these young ladies or someone who’s newly joining the cinema, they are not like the ones who have been around for 20 years. I’m seeing a lot more maturity, a lot more professionalism and I’m hopeful that things are going to get better from here.”

Nani isn’t the first actor to respond to the Hema Committee report. Earlier, Tovino Thomas also called for punishment for the perpetrators, emphasizing that anyone who commits such a terrible act should face consequences. “If someone has done such a terrible thing to anyone, be it a man or a woman, they should get the deserved punishment. They shouldn’t be spared, that’s the basic thing to do. They should not just be punished but we must ensure that this doesn’t happen again. That awareness, that education system must be there so that (the workspace is safer for women).”
In 2017, a Malayalam actress was sexually assaulted, prompting the government to establish a three-member commission. Led by retired Justice K Hema, the committee also included former bureaucrat KB Valsalakumari and veteran actress Sharada. The report, submitted to the government in 2019, was recently made public. It delves into various issues within the Malayalam film industry, including

sexual harassment

, inadequate facilities for women, pay disparities, and gender-based discrimination.
