NEW DELHI: Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Peoples Democratic Party (
PDP
) chief,
Mehbooba Mufti
has declared her candidacy from Anantnag constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The party on Sunday announced that Mufti will be pitched against
Ghulam Nabi Azad
of the
Democratic Progressive Azad Party
.
Parliamentary board chief of the party Sartaj Madni also announced that PDP’s youth wing president Waheed Parra will contest the polls from Srinagar and former Rajya Sabha member Mir Fayaz has been fielded from Baramulla.
The party further announced that PDP will support the Congress on two Jammu region seats of Udhampur and Jammu Lok Sabha seats.
The list of three candidates were announced after Mehbooba Mufti had accused INDIA bloc partner National Conference of leaving no options for PDP other than than to contest elections on the three Lok Sabha seats in Kashmir after the National Conference announced its candidates on all three seats of the state.
“They (NC) have left no option for us other than to field candidates and contest the elections,” Muft said.
The NC left two seats in Jammu for the Congress as part of the INDIA bloc’s seat-sharing agreement.
However, it is notable that the Bhartiya Janata Party is yet to announce 3 Lok Sabha seats in the valley.
