NEW DELHI: Avinashi Ganeshamurthi, the
MDMK MP
from Erode, succumbed to a
cardiac arrest
at 5.05 am on Thursday after allegedly attempting suicide. He had been admitted to the hospital on March 24.
The 76-year-old leader was rushed to an
Erode hospital
in critical condition on Sunday and subsequently transferred to a private hospital in Coimbatore. He was placed on ECHO support during his treatment.
Ganeshamurthi, a three-term Member of Parliament, was a prominent member within the MDMK.
Allegedly disappointed by the party’s denial of a ticket for contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Erode constituency, he had expressed his dissatisfaction over the party’s decision.
The MDMK and DMK had recently decided to field Durai Vaiko, the son of MDMK general secretary Vaiko, as the party’s candidate.
