Man held for giving Pakistan spy info on BSF
AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Friday arrested a contractual employee working in a
CPWD
office within the campus of the
BSF
headquarters in Bhuj for allegedly sharing sensitive information with a woman Pakistani spy who identified herself on WhatsApp as “
Aditi Tiwari
“.
ATS said the accused,
Nilesh Balia
, had got in touch with the Pakistani agent in January and allegedly fell in love with her. Tiwari told him that she worked for a corporate house and sought details on the BSF and the border area.
Balia
started sharing sensitive documents regarding the electrification work at under-construction and existing BSF buildings and some documents relating to civil departments with her, said ATS.
ATS officials said Balia was paid a total of Rs 28,800 through
UPI
platforms including PayTM. ATS will analyse Balia’s phone and bank accounts and investigate who else he was in contact with.
Officials said eight suspicious transactions had been found so far and investigators were examining the UPI IDs and other details.
Police said Balia had switched on the “disappearing messages” feature on WhatsApp and thus his chat history was being deleted, but investigators managed to obtain all the details. Balia and Tiwari would contact each other after office hours, and they spoke on the phone.
After getting a tip-off about his activities, the ATS put Balia under watch and analysed his phone records and bank accounts before calling him in for questioning. Balia was subsequently booked under relevant sections of the law.
