MUMBAI: To woo the Sikh community ahead of
polls
, Maharashtra govt has accepted several demands from the community and announced schemes for its development.
To promote and preserve Punjabi language and culture, govt has reconstituted the Punjabi Sahitya Academy. Social activist and convenor of Maharashtra Sikh Association Bal Malkit Singh has been appointed its chairman, with 10 other eminent Sikhs as members.
Giving the community representation in the State Minorities Commission, Charandip Singh has been appointed as member. Besides, the state has formed a representation committee to guide the govt and recommend schemes and policies.
