News of Liam Payne‘s death on Wednesday, has sent shockwaves around Tinseltown, with fans and fellow celebrity friends mourning the
One Direction
star’s loss.
Amidst the tributes of love pouring in on social media, a recent interview featuring his ex-fiancee
Maya Henry
revealed alarming details about their recent interactions. In the clip that has since gone viral on Twitter, Maya made an appearance on the podcast The Internet Is Dead, and shared that the singer continued to contact her, prompting her to consider legal action against him.
Describing his messages as ‘manipulative’, she said, “I always felt it was a manipulation tactic… so I’d continue to feel bad for him.”
“He would always message me ever since we broke up, like ‘Oh, I’m not well.’ He would always play with death and be like, ‘Well, I’m gonna die. I’m not doing well’,” she said.
Henry recounted how she had attempted to support Payne by encouraging him to seek professional help, but said he often turned down her efforts. “There was one time I was trying to get him help and he was not taking it. He would text my mom, ‘I’m not doing well, have Maya contact me,’ because I wouldn’t respond. And it’s just always the same cycle,” she added.
According to the viral clip, Maya claimed that Payne’s attempts to contact her intensified after she announced the release of her book in February 2024. She disclosed that he and his friends would create new accounts and call from new numbers to reach out to her and her family. She recalled a friend calling to say, “I don’t think you should put the book out. He’s not doing well and if something happens to him, not only are you going to blame yourself, but the whole world is going to blame you.”
In her interview, she also revealed that when she announce her book, “He called my mom, ‘I think I’m not going to be around much longer’. And I don’t play with death, so if you say this, I’m going to try and help you no matter what you’ve done. I think he took advantage of my family’s kindness.”
Henry revealed that she offered to help Payne return to rehab, not out of a desire to reconcile but out of concern for his well-being. “I was like, ‘If you want to go back to rehab, I will help you.’ Not that I wanted to be back with him, but he’s still somebody’s child, he’s still somebody’s brother. If that were my brother, I would want somebody to help him too,” she said.
She concluded the interview by alluding to recent developments she could not discuss due to legal reasons, adding, “As of recent events that have happened, I can’t speak on legally. It’s just gotten so much worse… but I always just felt really bad.”
News reports claimed that Maya issued a
cease and desist
last week to the singer following the ’emergence of new and concerning information’.
Payne was engaged to Maya Henry, from August 2020 to early 2022.
