Kejriwal was arrested because of his own deeds. He said that it makes him sad that Kejriwal, who while working with him raised voice against liquor, is now rolling out
liquor policy
.
“I am very upset that
Arvind Kejriwal
, who used to work with me, raise his voice against liquor, is now making liquor policies. His arrest is because of his own deeds,” he said.

The
Aam Aadmi Party
(AAP) chief was arrested by
Enforcement Directorate
(ED) in Delhi excise policy case on Thursday following two hours of questioning. Prior to his arrest, Kejriwal skipped nine summons from the central agency
Soon after his arrest, Aam Aadmi Party staged protest and announced that he will continue to run the government from jail.
Kejriwal was earlier refused protection from arrest from
Delhi high court
.
AAP following Delhi CM’s arrest filed a plea in the Supreme Court and three-judge bench was scheduled to hear the case. However, the plea was soon withdrawn by the Aam Aadmi Party.
Arvind Kejriwal joined Anna Hazare’s Lokpal movement in 2011 against corruption. He, the following year formed his own political party and contested in Delhi assembly elections.
The liquor policy, implemented in November 2021, allowed private licensees to manage liquor stores, discontinuing retail sales. Delhi chief secretary Naresh Kumar raised concerns in July 2022, citing major policy violations and alleging ‘undue benefits’ to licensees.
Consequently, the policy was revoked in September of the same year.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has accused liquor companies of influencing the excise policy to secure a 12% profit margin in wholesale transactions.
