Japan on Monday deployed fighter jets after a Chinese Y-9 intelligence plane briefly entered Japanese airspace near the Danjo Islands in Nagasaki Prefecture. This marked the first publicly acknowledged violation by a Chinese military aircraft. Japanese fighter jets intercepted the plane and issued warnings. Experts suggest these incursions test Japan’s response times and abilities.
Japan
on Monday deployed fighter jets as reported by the Defense Ministry in Tokyo confirming an unprecedented breach of Japanese territorial
airspace
by a Chinese military aircraft.
The ministry reported that between 11.29 am and 11.31 am, a Chinese military Y-9 intelligence-gathering plane briefly entered Japanese airspace in the vicinity of the Danjo Islands, located in Nagasaki Prefecture.
In response to the intrusion, fighter jets from Japan’s Air Self-Defense Forces were dispatched to intercept the aircraft and issue warnings.
Although China regularly deploys aircraft into international airspace above the East China Sea, this incident represents the first publicly acknowledged violation of Japan’s territorial airspace.
Experts believe that these incursions are intended to assess Japan’s response times and strain the capabilities of its
fighter jet
fleet.
