INDIA bloc may issue common pledge to send out unity message

Published:

NEW DELHI: The opposition is likely to issue a joint document as its common manifesto for the

2024 Lok Sabha elections

, as it plans to further send out a message of unity and resolve to defeat the governing BJP in the coming contest.
Sources said the

opposition parties

belonging to the

INDIA bloc

have completed consultations to draw a joint document.

The short vision paper will have common points that all the parties want to put together to frame their fight against BJP as one of contrasting ideologies and concerns. It is likely to be heavy on jobs, prices, and social welfare, besides, touching upon larger issues of national concern.
Sources said the document is likely to be released soon, possibly in the coming 2-3 days. The modalities of release involve bringing all the key party leaders together, though it is not clear if it can be done physically given the campaign engagements. In such a scenario, it may be done online also.
The opposition parties had discussed the possibility of a joint document ahead of polls, but could not hammer out a clarity on the issue.
One big complication has been that Congress is a multi state party, which brings about a national vision to its document, while most of the allies are regional outfits with very local concerns pertaining to their states.
