NEW DELHI: In a major setback to the BJP in Haryana, its
Member of Parliament
from Hisar resigned from the primary membership of the party on Sunday, citing ‘
compelling political reasons
.’ He later joined
Congress
in Delhi.
“I have resigned from the primary membership of BJP,due to compelling political reasons. I extend gratitude to the party, National President Sh.
JP Nadda, Prime Minister Sh.
Narendra Modi
, & Sh Amit Shah for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Member of Parliament for Hisar,” he posted on X.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, he had defeated JJP’s Dushyant Chautala and Bhavya Bishnoi, who was then with the Congress, to win from Hisar.
The former bureaucrat is the great-grandson of the renowned peasant leader Chotu Ram. His father, Birender, had served as a Union minister, and his mother, Premlata Singh, had represented the Uchana assembly seat.
