Government issues warning for these Android smartphone and tablet users

The Indian CERT-In warns Android users of ‘High’ severity security flaws in multiple versions of the operating system, including vulnerabilities that could lead to obtaining sensitive information, gaining elevated privileges, executing arbitrary code, and causing denial of service conditions.

Government of India has issued an important warning with a severity rating set to ‘High’ for Android users.
According to the report, several

security flaws

have been found within the multiple versions of the Android operating system. The government body has warned users about the existing vulnerabilities that have been reported.

What the government has said
As per the report, Multiple Vulnerabilities have been reported in Android which could be exploited by an attacker to obtain

sensitive information

, gain elevated privileges, execute arbitrary code or cause denial of service conditions on the targeted system.

The vulnerabilities exist in Android due to flaws in Framework, System, AMLogic, Arm components, MediaTek components, Qualcomm components & Qualcomm closed-source components.
Also, successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities can allow an attacker to obtain sensitive information and gain privileges and also run arbitrary code or even cause denial of service on the targeted system.
Affected Android versions

The vulnerabilities have been found within multiple versions of the Android including Android 11, Android 12, Android 12L, Android 13 and Android 14 operating systems. Also, this affects both Android-powered smartphones and tablets.
What’s the solution
The government body has advised users to apply the latest security patch available for their devices.
To check for the update, follow these steps:

  • Open Settings on your smartphone or tablet
  • Tap on Software updates
  • Then, tap on Check for updates button.
  • Hit Install, if there’s an update available.
  • Wait for it to download and install.
  • Once done, restart the phone.
