NEW DELHI: Former Congress spokesperson

Rohan Gupta

on Thursday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming

Lok Sabha elections

.
Gupta had

resigned

from Congress on March 22 claiming “character assassination” and “humiliation” by a senior leader of the party’s communications department was the reason for his decision to leave the party.

“The person who has humiliated me for the last two years, the person who has not budged from doing it in last three days, I am sure that he will not refrain from doing it in future and nobody will be able to stop him,” Gupta had said in a post on X.
“The same leader has also damaged the party with his arrogant and rude behaviour. Due to his extreme leftist mindset he ensured party’s silence on insult of Sanatan Dharma which hurt me personally,” he added.

Earlier this week, boxer-turned-politician, Congress leader Vijender Singh had also joined BJP.
Singh was the Congress candidate from South Delhi seat in the 2019 Lok Sabha.
Following his switch, the Singh said, “This feels like homecoming. I contested elections in 2019, and it feels good to be back. The respect that athletes receive both domestically and internationally under BJP and Modi govt is commendable. I aim to contribute to this govt, assist people, and lead them towards the right path.”
