A retired railway police officer in Adoor, Kerala, was sentenced to 25 and 50 years in prison for two Pocso cases involving sexual abuse of 11-year-old girls.

Judge Shibu Daniel sentenced Kodumon native Surendran (69) to 25 years in prison and slapped a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh in the first case.
He pronounced a sentence of 50 years RI and Rs 3 lakh fine in the second case. Since the sentences will run concurrently, Surendran will spend 50 years in jail.
The abuse survivors had been targeted by Surendran in his house. His wife was away for a wedding in the family when he committed the crime on Sept 12, 2021. One of the girls was subjected to sexual abuse multiple times over four years prior to Sept 2021, the prosecution told the court. The crime came to light when the girls confided in each other, going on to reveal what happened to the mother of one of them.
