CRPF ADG transferred after harassment plaint

GUWAHATI: A senior

CRPF officer

was prematurely

repatriated

to his

parent cadre

on Tuesday, two weeks after a

police complaint

was lodged against him for allegedly harassing a woman at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati.
The chief airport officer of

LGBI Airport

had on March 18 submitted a complaint to DCP (Guwahati West) alleging that CRPF additional DG Binod Kumar Singh, who is a 1994-batch IPS officer from UP cadre, had harassed an airport employee in the departure lounge.

As per the complaint, the CRPF officer had been provided services in the departure lounge on March 17, following a request from an officer in the administration department of his office, and a woman employee posted in the lounge had raised a complaint the next day.
The employee alleged that Singh initiated a conversation about her job and family with her, commented on her smile, insisted that she take his contact number and asked her to leave a text message on the number. The CRPF officer allegedly wanted to hug her, and she accused him of holding her arms despite her objection.

Later, the complaint was forwarded to Guwahati police commissioner Diganta Barah and a preliminary inquiry was carried out under a woman police officer.
A source stated that the inquiry has revealed that prima facie it was a case of outraging the modesty of a woman as per the versions of the woman employee of the airport.
However, no case was registered as the complaint was withdrawn after the CRPF officer had “apologised profusely” and therefore, she did not want to pursue the matter further.
Last June, Singh was appointed as additional DG of the CRPF on deputation for four years. He was posted as special DG (NE zone) in Guwahati from September last year.
The MHA on Tuesday issued a memorandum stating that Singh’s premature repatriation to his parent cadre with “immediate effect” has been approved.
