01/6This is the main ingredient that makes kids tall
As parents, we all want the best for our children, and one of our primary concerns is ensuring their healthy growth and development. While genetics play a significant role in determining a child’s height, experts emphasize that there are essential factors beyond genetics that can contribute to a child’s height. Surprisingly, it’s not just about nutrition and exercise. In this article, we will explore the importance of love, happiness, and emotional well-being in promoting your child’s healthy growth.
02/6Emotional well-being and growth
A young person’s emotional wellbeing is critical for preventing stunted growth, Sky News quoted Professor Barry Bogin, a biological anthropologist at Loughborough University, who has been studying how humans grow for almost five decades. His review has been published in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology.
03/6Mental health, hormones and height
According to Professor Bogin, not being loved by a child’s nearest and dearest and lacking any hope for the future can cause “toxic emotional stress” that can harm the body, “including blocking hormones needed for growth and height”. So, along with factors like genetics and healthy diet, children need love, hope and happiness to develop properly.
“If you don’t have security, healthcare, education and you worry about the future, you can’t have hope and that is what leads to chronic toxic stress,” the expert added.
04/6Role of genetics cannot be dismissed
While factors like a child’s mental health are important, the role of genetics in a child’s growth cannot be dismissed. A significant portion of a child’s height is determined by their genetic inheritance, with factors such as parental height, family history, and ethnic background playing a pivotal role. However, genetics do not paint the full picture, and other factors come into play, including environmental and psychological aspects.
05/6Fostering love and happiness in your child’s life
Spend quality time with your child. Engage in activities you both enjoy, listen to their thoughts and feelings, and create a strong emotional bond. Praise your child’s efforts and achievements. Positive reinforcement boosts self-esteem and happiness.

06/6Provide a stable environment
Consistency and stability are essential for emotional well-being. Ensure your child’s basic needs, such as food, shelter, and security, are met. Create an environment where your child feels safe to express their emotions and thoughts. Encourage open communication and active listening.
