NEW DELHI: The Centre on Friday issued orders to remove

(BSF) Director General (DG)

Nitin Agrawal

, and his deputy, Special DG (West)

Y B Khurania

, from their positions with immediate effect.
Both officers have been sent back to their respective state cadres.
Agrawal, a 1989-batch Kerala cadre officer, had assumed the role of BSF chief in June 2022, while Khurania, belonging to the 1990-batch of the Odisha cadre, was heading the force’s formation along the Pakistan border as the Special DG (West).

Appointments Committee of the Cabinet

(ACC) issued separate orders stating that Agrawal and Khurania were being “prematurely” repatriated with “immediate effect.” The reasons behind their sudden removal have not been disclosed in the government orders.
The BSF, with approximately 2.65 lakh personnel, is responsible for guarding India’s borders with Pakistan on the western front and Bangladesh on the eastern side.
