NEW DELHI: Veteran Indian spinner

Yuzvendra Chahal

took to Instagram to share a strong message amid nationwide outrage over a horrific

rape and murder case

in Kolkata.
The case involved a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor who was brutally raped and killed at

RG Kar Medical College and Hospital

on August 9. The heinous crime has triggered widespread protests and strikes across India, with citizens demanding swift justice for the victim.
In his now-deleted Instagram story, Chahal expressed his anger and called for extreme punishment for the perpetrators.

His message read: “Hang till death? Nope. Break their legs at 90°, shatter their collarbones, injure their private parts, keep the rapists alive to feel all the horrifying torture and THEN HANG TILL DEATH.” The post quickly drew attention, reflecting the intense emotions surrounding the case.

Chahal’s post, though deleted, sparked conversations about the appropriate response to such crimes.

While his message was borne out of frustration and a desire for justice, it also raised questions about the role of public figures in shaping discourse on sensitive issues.
Chahal wasn’t the only cricketer to speak out; fellow Indian cricketer

Suryakumar Yadav

also shared his thoughts on the issue. In his Instagram story, SKY stated, “Educate your son and your brothers and your father and your husband and your friends.”
On the cricketing front, Chahal is set to play for Northamptonshire in the County Championship Division Two after being part of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad but not featuring in the playing XI.
