With Netflix’s ‘
Heeramandi
’, director
Sanjay Leela Bhansali
made his digital debut. He has since talked candidly about his relationship with his actors. Bhansali clarified that although he works with exceptional actors who give their all, casting them in other movies isn’t always feasible, which might occasionally upset the actors.
During a conversation with Galatta Plus, Sanjay stated that although he respects each and every one of his actors, he believes that casting is quite organic.
He praised the actors with whom he had worked and described himself as fortunate.
He stated, “I’ve worked with wonderful actors Ranbir Kapoor,
Ranveer Singh
,
Deepika
Padukone, Madhuri Dixit, Rani Mukerji,
Amitabh Bachchan
. I have been very blessed, Hrithik Roshan, Nana Patekar, they’re all wonderful. Seema Biswas, one of my all-time favorites and one of the greatest actors. So I’ve been very, very fortunate.”
The filmmaker further added, “I feel that I have a great equation with each one. I feel sometimes when I don’t repeat them in another film, they get upset about it or they feel, ‘We give so much to Sanjay for this, why not this one?’ But I feel sometimes the casting is very organic. It has to come from deep within. We are not here to build relationships.”
He further shared that he respects and loves all his actors and he is quite fortunate that all the actors he has worked with have given to him. He said, “You’ve acted, you’ve given your time, hard work, and you’ve created magic on the screen. More than 90% of them have created magic on the screen. It is because of this love and respect for each other, so they give me their best.”
‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’, which was released on Netflix on May 01, has been receiving mixed reviews from the audience. It stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Segal and Fardeen Khan among others. Sanjay will next collaborate with Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal and Ranbir Kapoor for ‘Love & War’.
