NEW DELHI: A special
Air India
flight successfully evacuated 205 individuals, including six infants, from
Dhaka
to New Delhi on Wednesday amid ongoing
political unrest
in Bangladesh.
According to the officials, the chartered flight departed New Delhi for Dhaka on Tuesday on short notice despite infrastructure challenges.
Meanwhile Air India, Vistara, and
IndiGo
resume their scheduled flights between Delhi and Dhaka.
Air India operated its evening flight to Dhaka on Tuesday, while its morning flight was canceled. Vistara and IndiGo had also canceled their Tuesday flights to Dhaka.
Air India said it will operate its evening flights AI237/238 on the Delhi-Dhaka-Delhi sector.
In a statement, the carrier also said that due to the prevailing situation there, a one-time waiver on rescheduling is being offered to passengers having confirmed bookings on any of its flights to and from Dhaka between August 4 and 7.
Vistara usually operates daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly services from Delhi to Dhaka, while IndiGo runs one daily flight from Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai, and two daily flights from Kolkata to the Bangladeshi capital.
Bangladesh has experienced significant turmoil recently, with Sheikh Hasina resigning as Prime Minister on Monday following massive protests. These protests, which started as a response to a job quota scheme, escalated into widespread demands for Hasina’s removal after 15 years in power.
