Autopsy shows heart attack led to death: Cop

Published:

LUCKNOW: Gangster-turned-politician

Mukhtar Ansari

will be buried at his native Ghazipur district on Saturday, in the family’s Kalibag graveyard in Yusufpur Mohammadabad.
The

autopsy

on the body of the former five-term MLA revealed that “myocardial infarction (

heart attack

) was the cause of Ansari’s death“, said a senior police officer. The viscera has been preserved for further chemical analysis.

In repeated pleas in court, Ansari had alleged as recently as March 21 that he was being slow-poisoned in jail. Food he ate on March 19, he said, caused excruciating pain in the veins of his hands and legs, followed by numbness.
Ansari’s son Umar, who was the first to arrive at the Banda hospital after his father’s death, demanded a

postmortem examination

by a panel of doctors from AIIMS Delhi as he had “no belief in the doctors of

Banda medical college

“.
However, the autopsy was performed by a panel of five doctors – one from SGPGI Lucknow and four from Banda medical college. The body was handed over to the family in the evening.

The entire proceedings of the postmortem examination were videographed. “All mandatory rules and SOPs for conducting the autopsy in cases of death of convicts and prisoners were followed,” said a senior police officer.
A judicial probe was ordered on Friday by Banda chief judicial magistrate (CJM) Bhagwan Das Gupta, and the other by district magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal, which will be conducted by additional DM, finance, Rajesh Kumar. The judicial probe will be conducted by additional CJM (MP/MLA Court), Garima Singh, who has been asked to submit a report within a month.

Ansari’s burial will be held at 10am Saturday, his elder brother Shibgatullah, who is a former MLA, said.
Repeating his allegations of

slow poisoning

and medical negligence, Umar said: “What is the use of recounting what happened? We have already presented evidence to various courts regarding poisoning.”
In the Barabanki court, trial is on in different cases of forgery and Gangsters Act against Ansari and his 12 associates on charges of registering an ambulance with fake documents. Ansari was to appear before Barabanki court in a Gangsters Act case on Friday.
