NEW DELHI: Seeking
cancellation of bail
of N Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra govt on Monday told Supreme Court that his family members are threatening
state officials
for speaking against the former CM in a
criminal case
lodged against him.
Appearing before a bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Pankaj Mithal, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, for state govt, submitted that his family members are saying that officers will have to face consequences if their govt is formed after elections.
He said benefit of bail cannot be extended to him in such a scenario.
“Shocking conduct by family of the accused. They are openly saying that after we come to power, we will take action against all officers who gave statements… Threatening statements are being made right before polls,” Rohatgi submitted. He told the bench that the state had also filed a formal application seeking cancellation of bail.
The bench, after a brief hearing, issued notice to Naidu and asked him to respond to the allegations. Court posted the hearing after three weeks.
The bench was hearing state govt’s plea against Andhra HC’s decision granting bail to Naidu on Nov 3 in a case pertaining to skill development programme scam.
