Amarnath Yatra suspended for 2nd day due to inclement weather
SRINAGAR: The annual Amarnath Yatra remained suspended on both routes — Baltal (Ganderbal district) and
Nunwan
(Pahalgam district) — for the second consecutive day on Saturday due to inclement weather conditions that triggered multiple landslides along the 270km-long Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district, officials said.
Overnight showers led to fresh landslides, mudslides and shooting stones at Panthyal, Mehar and other places in Ramban district, blocking the national highway. Train movement from Qazigund to Banihal was also suspended following waterlogging at
Hiller Anantnag
railway station.
A fresh batch of pilgrims could not set out for the holy cave shrine from the
Yatri Niwas
base camp at
Bhagwati Nagar
in Jammu on Saturday in view of a weather advisory and heavy rains in Kashmir Valley, an official said.
The Yatra was suspended on Friday too because of bad weather.
