Shraadh or fortnight of ancestors, is a very important period in the Hindu calendar where families pay their utmost respects to their loved ones who have left this world. This year, Pitra Paksha is starting from 17th September and will end on 2nd October. In these 15 days, the Hindu community offers prayers, food offerings, and water to their ancestors for well-being in the afterlife.

The most intriguing part of the Shraadh ritual is the preparation of food for the departed souls. As a mark of respect, the favourite food of the ancestors is prepared during Shraadh. But, the two ingredients that hold a lot of importance during this period is –
