JAMMU:

Security forces

recovered at least 25

detonators

during an operation at a

village

in J&K’s

Rajouri

district after two minor schoolgirls suffered ‘explosion’ injuries, officials said on Friday.
“Tasveer Kouser (10) and Saima Kouser (15), both from Doongi-Brahmana in Rajouri, suffered injuries in their hands after they fiddled with some unidentified substance in Ghai village while returning from school on Tuesday afternoon,” an official said.

“The duo was rushed to Govt Medical College & Associated Hospital (GMC&AH)-Rajouri, where they are under treatment in the orthopaedic ward, and are to be operated upon because of the severe damage to their fingers,” the official added.
Initially, it was believed that the girls had suffered burn injuries due to bursting of crackers but later the nature of injuries pointed towards low-intensity explosion, he said.

Following the incident, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group of J&K Police and a team from Chingus police post launched a joint cordon-and-search operation in Ghai village on Wednesday evening, which continued on Thursday too, leading to the recovery of the detonators.
