‘Malgudi Days’

‘Malgudi Days’ is a collection of short stories in which there are several interesting characters like Swami and his friends.

The English Teacher

Written in 1945, The English Teacher novel is about Krishna, an English teacher and his life after the death of his wife.

The Man-Eater of Malgudi

RK Narayan wrote this novel in 1961. It is about a printer named Nataraj and a taxidermist named Vasu.

The Vendor of Sweets

Written in 1967, this book is about KV Jagan, a sweet vendor of Malgudi, the fictional Indian town which is featured in RK Narayan’s work.

The World of Nagaraj

Another account of a small town man called Nagaraj, this book is also based in Malgudi.

Talkative Man

This novel was published in 1986 and revolves around a journalist.

The Painter of Signs

Published in 1976, this book is about a sign painter named Raman.

Mr. Sampath

Mr. Sampath – The Printer of Malgudi was published in 1949. It is about Mr Sampath the printer and Mr Srinivas the editor.

The Ramayana

This is a prose adaptation of the Kamba Ramayanam.

The Grandmother’s Tale

A novella with illustrations by RK Laxman, this was published in 1992 and is about RK Narayan’s great grandmother.

RK Narayan

Rasipuram Krishnaswami Iyer Narayanaswami, born in 1906, is known for his contribution to Indian literature.

​His popular works are set in the fictional South Indian town Malgudi.​

​He passed away on May 13, 2001.​
